  • PETITION TO SENATOR MIKE LEE TO NOT BLOCK ELECTORAL COLLEGE CERTIFICATION

To Senator Mike Lee of Utah:

    941 signatures
We the undersigned urge you not to join on to the effort by some members of Congress to block the certification of the electoral college votes on January 6.  We believe there is no reason for this year's general election - the legitimate process of the expression of the will of the voters - to be overturned by the Congress.  There has been no evidence of massive fraud by election officials that would have resulted in a different outcome.  We urge you to uphold the process by which the voters, not the Congress, determine who the next president will be.

  • Petition to Support Ending Public Funding of Closed Primary Elections

    311 signatures

We the undersigned believe that public money should not be spent on a closed primary exclusively for one political party.  We believe the legislature should allow taxpayer money to be spent only for primary elections that are open to all voters, regardless of party affiliation.  We believe that funding a closed primary is like taxation without representation, which our ancestors fought against over 200 years ago.  We believe that should not happen again today.

We support the United Utah Party's efforts to end public funding of closed primary elections.

  • Petition to Legislative Leaders to Make Utah Attorney General a Non-Partisan Office

The following petition to Speaker Brad Wilson and President Adams is being proposed by the United Utah Party:

    252 signatures

Utah's Attorney General has been the subject of scrutiny for possible corruption for the past 20 years.  The past two occupants and the current occupant of the office repeatedly have been accused of catering to large Republican campaign donors.  As well, the current incumbent has failed to investigate potential violations of state law and policy.  For example, the Attorney General has not investigated recent instances of government contracts being made outside of the normal contracting processes.  Also, they include Attorney General Reyes' failure to investigate whether Governor Herbert violated the law in offering an inducement to a GOP gubernatorial primary candidate to withdraw from the race and endorse the governor's favored candidate.  Repeatedly, Attorney General Reyes has failed to investigate those of his own political party.

Therefore, we the undersigned, believe Utah's Attorney General should be above political party and call on you to initiate a constitutional amendment making the office of Utah Attorney General non-partisan - an office to be elected by the voters in a non-partisan election rather than through a political party nomination process.

    Candidate Outreach 2020

As you know, many Utahns have become quite frustrated with the current political atmosphere in Utah and the country as a whole. The tax reform bill, in addition to other policy areas (medical marijuana, Medicaid expansion, education funding, etc.) has demonstrated how out of touch our representatives are with us, their constituents.

We need to replace our legislators with people who will listen. We need representatives who will actually represent.

Would you be one of those people? We need you to consider running for the state legislature, state school board, or the county commission.

As an active candidate, you can help us replace those incumbents who are not listening and help us raise awareness for the party as a new moderate alternative. Running may be out of your comfort zone. But we can help train you and provide other services to you as a candidate.

If you do not have the time to walk and actively campaign, even as a less active candidate, you can help by giving voters another alternative and building support for the party.

Please email us at [email protected] and let us know if you would be able to help us in one of those capacities. We are seeing increasing support for the UUP. This election will be critical in our growth. Help us provide the new practical alternative Utah voters want. We need your help.

    Immigration Petition July 2018

    95 signatures

    Dear Utah Congressional delegation:

We, the undersigned, call on the Trump administration and Congress to pass legislation that will correct the current policies of the Trump administration regarding immigration.   Through President Trump's executive order of June 20, 2018, the misguided family separation policy has been ended for future detainees, but there is no provision for a change of status of those currently held.   And the executive order still treats asylum seekers as criminals by imposing a penalty of imprisonment for those who present themselves to immigration authorities without proper documentation.

We call on you to work in Congress to pass legislation and urge President Trump to sign such legislation that will:

Make it illegal in perpetuity to separate children from their parents when crossing the border.

Provide adequate resources to reunite families that have been torn apart by the recent policy.

Remove the provision of automatic imprisonment of asylum seekers.
