Afghan Refugee Crisis

Afghan Refugee Crisis

The United Utah Party is deeply saddened by the tragic events in Afghanistan. Our hearts go out to those suffering. We support Utah's efforts to welcome the Afghans who will likely become refugees, especially those who are in danger because of their cooperation with US military and civilian operations in the country. “As a nation, we have a responsibility to help these Afghans
who have risked their lives to assist us,” says UUP Chair Hillary Stirling.

We applaud Governor Spencer Cox’s letter to President Biden welcoming refugees to our state.
We also call upon citizens of Utah to add their own voices and support to the governor’s by filling out the contact form on https://whitehouse.gov/contact/
We are dismayed that many of Utah’s elected representatives, including Senator Mike Lee and Representatives Blake Moore and Burgess Owens have remained silent on Governor Cox’s
letter, nor have they committed to bipartisan cooperation to help Afghan refugees in Utah. The United Utah Party calls upon them to publicly commit to work with the Biden Administration to
facilitate the relocation of Afghan refugees.
