The Ills of a One Party System
From 1929 to 2000, Mexico had a one-party system. It is true that political parties other than the PRI (Institutional Revolutionary Party) could form and compete. And it is likely one of those parties won the 1988 presidential election, but was denied the victory due to election fraud by the PRI. But competition was stifled by the overriding influence of the governing party over not only the machinery of elections, but also all the various sectors in Mexican society.

As I talk with various "movers and shakers" about the United Utah Party, I tell them about how we started, what we stand for, and what we plan to do in 2018. But I find these people are particularly interested in our candidates. It is a pleasure to be able to introduce our candidates to them.

Chair's Note
Eric Eliason, our candidate for the 1st Congressional district, informed me over the weekend that he got a voter card in the mail from his elections office that showed he was registered as an unaffiliated voter. He then compared it to one he received a month ago saying he was registered with the United Utah Party. Without his permission, someone in an elections office had changed his party affiliation so he was not longer affiliated with the UUP.
Upon hearing of this, Jim Bennett, our former Congressional candidate, then checked his party registration online and found that the same had occurred to him. He had done a video blog last year showing his new registration with the UUP. But when he checked his registration on Monday, he was now unaffiliated.
List of Candidates
United Utah Party is very proud of the 19 candidates who have stepped forward and are willing to do their part in pioneering real change in local, state, and federal lawmaking.
Look for the complete list and information on each candidate: https://www.unitedutah.org/candidates.
Don't stop there. In order to create the right momentum to effect real change, each of these candidates needs your help. If you have few candidates running in your area, consider adopting a candidate in another part of the state. Do you have a certain skill set or resources? Consider volunteering or offering an in-kind donation.
We can do more than we realize, when we're united!

The United Utah Party state convention is THIS SATURDAY, April 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM
We will meet at Midvale Middle School in Midvale, UT.
7852 S. Pioneer St., Midvale, UT 84047
As I've participated in my own county convention and have had a chance to talk with other like-minded voters, I feel a new energy growing throughout the state, and I'm loving it! I used to feel so cynical and pessimistic about politics. My voice didn't matter, my vote didn't count. Now, I'm starting to catch the vision of what can be accomplished if we unite and do our part.
Hope to see you all at the state convention!

Now There's a Dream
“Come, join us; enter the conversation. Together we’ll listen. Together we’ll find practical solutions. No person will be discounted. No idea will be shunned. Compromise is not a dirty word here. We can move forward above the current political gridlock with respect, compassion, and dignity for all. Now there’s a dream!!”
--- Debbie Mays, Letter to the Editor, The Herald Journal, March 24, 2018
These words perfectly summarize the excitement, the exhilaration, and the hope that was felt by nearly 900 caucus-goers at the United Utah’s Party’s first ever caucuses held across the state on March 20, 2018.
If you attended, or followed online, then you know that Utahns showed everyone that night that there is a growing hunger and thirst in our state for a party that makes reasonableness, compromise, and practicality its central tenants. There is a great yearning by those who have been left politically homeless by the growing extremism of the Republicans and Democrats to find someplace where they belong.
At the Caucuses, we boldly declared that that someplace is with the
UNITED UTAH PARTY
And we need YOUR help to take that

“We were astounded by the turnout,” said Richard Davis, United Utah Party chair. “Clearly, there are many Utahns wanting a new alternative. They are glad we are here to provide that alternative.”
