RESPONSIVE LAND DEVELOPMENT

RESOLVE RECYCLING CRISIS

WELCOMING CITY COUNCIL

West Jordan is a land of possibilities!  As we develop, let's blend existing communities with well thought out new projects which place very high density housing away from single family homes.  West Jordan also needs jobs to keep us working close to home.  I would like to cultivate businesses to join a Tech Center where innovative industry can flourish in our city.

Our world and our city are in the midst of a recycling crisis.  Foreign countries are not buying our recycled products as they have in the past.  What West Jordan recycles is being charged a much higher rate and then taken to the landfill anyway.  Like the Trans-Jordan Landfill, I want to work with neighboring cities to develop our own recycling  facility.

Have you ever been to a West Jordan City Council meeting?  At times, as few as 10 people are observing our government in action. Approaching the council can feel very unwelcoming. Leaders should encourage you to participate and be grateful for the information you provide!  The Council room needs updating, such as a document camera for patron use and a wheelchair accessible podium.  I can help our city be more citizen friendly.

DEVELOP

PROCESSES

    In November of 2018, voters

adopted a new form of city government.  In 2020, the newly elected West Jordan Mayor will become the executive branch of our city, rather than just a titled council member.  We need an educated and informed council to keep a balance of power during this transition and ensure our practices match our policies.  I will take an active role in leading West Jordan through this critical process.

The Jordan School District spans several cities in the western part of our valley.  West Jordan needs a liaison to the School Board who knows education and can advocate for the needs of our city's children and families.  As a teacher, former principal, and education attorney, I can be this connection and voice for West Jordan.

I have been attending the West Jordan City Council meetings for over a year now.  Repeatedly, I hear the council debate decisions about waivers to fees that give preference to certain groups. Every month, a council member asks, "Why don't we have a process or procedure for this that we can follow?"  Our city has grown beyond sloppy "small town" decisions and needs legal and fair systems for governance. As a practicing attorney with a Masters in Public Administration, I can help draft and implement these procedures.
