Praise for Bipartisan Infrastructure Vote
Tonight, the United States Senate advanced a $1 trillion physical infrastructure bill with a vote of 67-32, with Utah Senator Mitt Romney voting with the majority and Senator Mike Lee joining 16 other Republicans to oppose the bill.
“With this vote, Mitt Romney once again demonstrates that his priorities put principle above narrow partisan interests,” said United Utah Party Chair Hillary Stirling. “This was a solidly bipartisan vote, and the United Utah Party applauds Senator Romney for working with colleagues of every ideological stripe to benefit our state and our nation.”
In contrast, Stirling called Senator Lee’s vote "disappointing for any number of reasons.”
“By refusing to even come to the table to negotiate in good faith, Mike Lee has failed the people of Utah,” she said. “Senator Lee’s vote once again puts party above everything else, which is a disappointment to the people he was elected to serve.”
Stirling expressed hope that Senator Lee would be willing to set aside partisanship as the billl moves forward. “Utah’s senators should be united in representing the interests of the people of Utah, not the leadership of the GOP,” Stirling said. “Mike Lee would do well to take a page out of Mitt Romney’s playbook and make that happen.”
