Jay Mcfarland Announces Run for U.S. House of Representatives With UUP

Well-known podcaster and former KSL talk radio personality Jay Mcfarland announced today that he will run for U.S. House of Representatives in the 2nd Congressional District with the United Utah Party.  Jay has spent his career in radio fighting for principled politics, most notably as the host of the JayMac News Show on KSL News Radio in Salt Lake City.  Jay announced that he had joined the United Utah Party on his January 6th podcast.  "I believe that the United Utah Party is the best place moving forward, where we can create an opportunity to take back the power from the majority parties and return to a place where elected officials have to come to us for our vote, instead of knowing how we're going to vote," said Jay in his announcement.

United Utah Party Calls for a Robust Independent Redistricting Commission

The legislature released their proposed federal and state district maps for the next decade of elections this weekend. “These maps are a severe disappointment. They’re heavily gerrymandered, dividing up communities and ignoring the will of the people as expressed at the ballot box and at the many hearings the Independent Redistricting Commission held statewide,” said Hillary Stirling, United Utah Party Chair.

PRESS RELEASE: Inland Port Too Expensive

UUP Says Inland Port Authority Bonds Too Expensive

Party calls for increased responsibility, accountability with taxpayers' money

The United Utah Party is concerned by the enormous price tag on the Utah Inland Port Authority’s new bond approval. “This is not what fiscal responsibility looks like,” says UUP Chair Hillary Stirling. “The $150 million is far too high a cost to Utah taxpayers without a guarantee of accountability in construction of the public infrastructure district.”

PRESS RELEASE: Bears Ears Solution

United Utah Party Calls on Governor Not to Sue Over National Monuments
UUP encourages legislative solution to monuments issue, involving input from local and state officials.

The United Utah Party encourages Governor Cox and state legislators to find and present a legislative solution to the issue of the expansion of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase National Monuments before suing the federal government. These monuments need the stability of a bipartisan agreement so that they and the communities around them are not pulled back and forth by partisan decisions.

This is so we can select county leaders, greet old friends, meet new ones, and gear up for the coming elections. We’ll be sending postcard invitations to our known Uniters a week or two before your convention, but if you’d like to save the date now, you can find a complete list of our county conventions at unitedutah.org/calendar.

Covid Regulations in Schools

Regarding the recent letter from the Department of Education, the United Utah Party agrees with Governor Cox in the belief that the federal government is too far removed to effectively administer mask mandates. However, with that belief, we also believe that state legislatures are too far removed to make those decisions as well. "Their plan to allow county commissioners and councils to declare mask mandates warps issues of public health and children’s safety into an unfortunate game of political maneuvering,"; says UUP Chair Hillary Stirling.
